Just ten minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, Niva Kurumba Maldives is the island where Maldivian tourism began. Opened in 1972, this naturally lush resort balances heritage with an easy, cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The island is designed for guests who want more than quiet beach days. A good house reef brings reef sharks, turtles and colourful fish close to shore, while Euro-Divers, a marine centre, water sports and seasonal surfing trips open the ocean further.
With 180 rooms, bungalows, villas and residences, Niva Kurumba works especially well for families and multi-generational stays. There are no overwater villas: accommodation is set in tropical gardens or along the beach, with larger pool villas and a two-bedroom residence offering extra privacy.
